Six dead when two vehicles plunge into the river in J&K’s Doda

(PTI) Six victims were killed when two vehicles diverged off the highway and fell into a river in Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday police reported.


Two other people were injured in two incidents that occurred on the Doda-Bhaderwah Road within six hours, the Senior Director of Police, Doda, Abdul Qayoom told reporters.

A car was swept into Neeru stream in the vicinity of Galgandhar after it rolled down 400 feet at 6.30 am. The accident resulted in the deaths of four persons and serious injuries to another person, he added.

The deceased were named by the names of Satya Devi Satisha Devi Vikram Singh as well as Lakh Raj who are all inhabitants of Shiva village. They were heading to Bhaderwah in the course of a wedding ceremony He said.

A second vehicle sank into the river from 300 feet near Mughal Market, two km away from the second crash location.

The incident took place in the early hours of 12.30 am. The bodies of Sajad Ahmed of Tangorna-Bhaderwah as well as Ravinder Kumar from Himote-Bhaderwah were taken from the vehicle The SSP who was responsible for both operations said.

Piyush Kumar from Chinta was rescued from critical condition the official said.
