(PTI) India’s first ever indigenous aircraft carrier– INS Vikrant -the biggest ship ever constructed in the history of maritime India and will be officially launched on Friday.
Premier Secretary Narendra Modi, who arrived here on Thursday, will formally appoint the warship that is equipped with state-of-the-art automated features, and constructed for a price around Rs.20,000 million located at Cochin Shipyard.

It is expected that the Prime Minister present an updated Naval Ensign (Nishaan) to break rid of the colonial past for the occasion.
Modi has described the 2nd of September as the “landmark day for India’s efforts to become Aatmanirbhar in the defence sector” as the first built and designed by India’s own aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant will be put into service.
A number of dignitaries attended, like Defence Minister Rajnath and Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Governor Arif Mohamad Khan and chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar and senior officials from Navy as well as Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) are expected to attend the one and a half hour long commissioning ceremony organized in the shipyard.
