India wins Bronze at Dota 2 at the Inaugural World Esports Champion 2022 Commonwealth Games

Team representing India at the Dota 2 tournament at the inaugural Commonwealth Esports Championship 2022 won bronze on Sunday. India beat the team from New Zealand by 2-0 in the best-of-three game to win the trophy. India was awarded an Olympic bronze medal in the Asian Games 2018 as well and is now aiming to impress at 2022’s Asian Games 2022, where E-sports are a medal sport. Rocket League’s team Rocket League could not win any medals.

Its Indian Dota 2 team comprised Moin Ejaz (captain), Ketan Goyal, Abhishek Yadav, Shubhnam Goli as well as Vishal Vernekar. Through a fierce game and a variety of strategies The Indian team beat New Zealand New Zealand team by 2-0 in a best of three format. India also beat Wales and received an early bye against Trinidad and Tobago, but they lost to England. The Indians were later lost to the Malaysian team, who beat New Zealand to win the medal. Malaysia took home the gold medal at Dota 2. This win is an indication of the effort that the team has put into over the years . We dedicate this victory to our nation. A medal during the Commonwealth was a goal for us and we’re very satisfied as a group, said Moin Ejaz following the recent conclusion of Commonwealth Esports Championships 2022 held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham between August 6 and 7 2022.

It was the first time that India has won ever medal in esports at the Commonwealth Games. India was also awarded bronze in the Asian Games 2018. Lokesh Suji, Director of Esports Federation of India and Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation said that the next event is the Asian Games 2022, where E-sports will be a medal-winning event. “Our goal is to be the best at the event with numerous podium finishes , and to bring the nation the glory. The e-sports community is in the process of requesting and expects e-sports to be recognized in the eyes of government officials as an official legitimate sport in India for the benefit and the support that any community of sports and athletes will get, said Suji.

India also participated as a team in Rocket League and the team was coached by Hargun Singh Sandeep Sahani as well as Rushil Reddy. They were defeated by Canada by three points in the most thrilling of five series in their initial round-of-16 match. The team also suffered defeats to Wales and England before being ejected of the tournament early during the stage of group play. Together with Dota 2 along with Rocket League, PES 2022 was also a part of the competition.

Malaysia is the top of the table of medals, by claiming three golds. Host England came in second place having one gold and three silvers and the bronze. Wales finished the top three with silver, gold and bronze.
