Digital Services to Boost several billion dollars in revenue in the coming years, Airtel Chairman Says

Airtel, Jio, Vodafone Idea and a division belonging to Adani Enterprises will participate in the auction that is scheduled for the 5G spectrum.

Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Mittal has declared it will in the forefront of providing 5G connectivity to India with a robust network that will help support India’s digital-first economy. The remarks from Mittal are significant as the countdown to 5G spectrum auctions has started.

A total of 72GHz (gigahertz) of radio waves worth at the least the sum of Rs. 4.3 lakh crore is expected to be added to blocks during auction which is scheduled to start on the 26th of July.

In preparation for the big event in the coming weeks, in preparation for the big event Telecom Department is hosting an auction mock (mock exercise) both on the Friday and on Saturday (July 22 and 23rd July).

A subsidiary from billionaire Gautam Adani’s top brand Adani Enterprise, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea are scheduled to take part in the auction for 5G spectrum.

It is believed that the India market is gearing up to receive 5G services that will enable ultra-fast rates (about 10 times more efficient than the 4G) and will bring new solutions and business models.

The report reads: BhartiAirtel’s annual report for 2021-22 Sunil Mittalsaid, “We can proudly declare the fact that Airtel will be the first to take on providing 5G connectivity to India by providing a strong network that can help the digital-first economy of India.” Mittal stated that Airtel led the way in 5G testing by testing the network before the rivals and becoming the very first company in India to show the best 5G cloud gaming experience and to conduct a successful 700 Mhz band test for connectivity in rural areas.

In his note to shareholders entitled ‘Onwards, with confidence and courage Mittal urged shareholders to move forward with courage and confidence. Mittal further stated that digital services, over the coming years, will add billions of dollars in revenues while maintaining an asset-light approach.

This belief is confirmed by the first successes of Airtel’s digital ventures the company has been able to achieve, he said.

In the midst of COVID-19’s new variants, geopolitical tensions, rising commodity prices , and an increase in inflation, the fiscal year witnessed India become a shining light in world economics, Mittal wrote.

“We need to all be prepared for a major leap forward and be prepared to take the initiative to approach things in a fresh manner with renewed confidence,” he stated.

Airtel Director of Operations, Gopal Vittal said the company is “fully prepared” for 5G and its primary network, radio network, and transport network are fully capable of surviving the future.

“… We showed our 5G readiness through industry-first tests that focused on industrial and consumer applications,” Vittal said.
