Cong blasts government for ‘taking back’ cash under PM-KISAN, declaring farmers ineligible’

(PTI) The Congress on Thursday alleged that the Centre issues notices to farmers who are not eligible as part of the scheme under PM-KISAN in order to refund the money that was that was paid out to them. The Congress also demanded that the collection from “poor annadaatas” be immediately put on hold.

The Opposition party stated that while the government “waiving lakhs of crores” worth of loans from its industrialist partners but it is also taking back the money that farmers have paid.

In a press conference held in the AICC headquarters in the city, Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh claimed that by declaring the farmers as ineligible as per the Kisan Sanam Nidhischeme, the central government has begun the process of reclaiming the funds.

“Instead instead of Kisan Samman Nidhi the policy by the government has been changed to “Kisan Apman Nidhi’. The government, who is releasing thousands of crores of loans from its industrialist buddies and is reclaiming the funds given to poor “annadaatas” of the country, …,” Singh declared.

In 2019 the year that the Modi government announced the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi ahead of his Lok Sabha elections, it “hastily” took bank account numbers of farmers to ensure they could get their money before the elections, he claimed.

“Now the central government is saying that those who are not eligible for this and have received the amount under the Kisan Samman Nidhi should return the money. The government is also sending notices to farmers for taking back the money. The process of recovery by declaring about two crore farmers ineligible across the country should be immediately stopped,” Singh stated.

The government has announced that the money was transferred to non-eligible beneficiaries of the PM-KISAN scheme. An advisory has been sent to states on how to get refunds. A facility was created on the portal that allows farmers can make a claim for the money via the The Non-Tax Receipt Portal (NTRP) process.

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) that was announced in February of 2019, is a central plan which aims to provide cash assistance to land-holding farmer families subject to specific exclusion requirements that will allow them to manage the costs associated with agriculture and related activities as well as household demands.

Singh added that Uttar Pradesh should be declared an area of drought since this year, there was 44 per cent less rain than the average, which means that all Kharif crops have been ruined.

“Along with this, after declaring the state drought-hit, all the farmers of the state should be given compensation for their crops immediately. Interest on all agricultural loans of farmers such as for agricultural equipment, fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, should be postponed for six months,” Singh declared.

The Congress leader claimed that prior to the 2022 elections for the assembly that in the 2022 assembly elections, the Uttar Pradesh government had started the plan of offering free food grains to cardholders in order to influence their vote that has since been halted.

“With objective now achieved, vote taken, free ration has also been stopped,” the politician said.

“Unemployment-poverty has increased further. The purchasing power of the poor has further decreased. NCRB data shows that suicides of daily wage labourers have increased. The closure of the free ration scheme at such a time exposes the politics of selfishness and meanness of the state government,” he said.
